“I painted the group. Nothing changed.”

Its faces or nested containers may already have explicit paint. Open Diagnostics and compare Appearance with Assigned. Decide whether you intend to change the container assignment or its contents before changing Assign Target.

“Another copy changed as well.”

You may have edited a face or nested entity owned by a shared component definition. Direct root-instance paint and contents edits have different effects. Review the edit context, shared occurrences and Include shared faces guidance before continuing.

“My variant did not include a new object.”

Targets are registered explicitly. New geometry is not automatically enrolled just because it uses the same material. Review Edit Targets and deliberately add the intended selected assignments. Missing configured materials must be repaired separately.

“Texture Transform skipped part of the object.”

Painted child containers, explicit face paint, projected textures, hidden or protected occurrences, and shared-face coverage can restrict container entry. Inspect the reported scope. Select the appropriate child or use explicit-face entry where needed.

“Purge left an unused material.”

It may be needed by a saved variant or mapping, still assigned in hidden geometry, or referenced inside an unused definition. UMM preserves required references. Inspect before deleting it manually.
