How to use it
- Locate the material card.
- Choose Rename for a new name, or Duplicate for an independent material.
- Before Delete, inspect Material Usage and any saved variant choices, then review the confirmation.
Expected result
Duplicate oak to create a separate stained finish. Assign the copy to the intended objects; duplication alone does not repaint them.
Controls & options
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rename | Change the material name. For several materials, use Material Library → Batch Rename. |
| Duplicate | Create a separate material based on the source material. Assign the copy where an independent finish is needed. |
| Delete | Remove a material from the model after reviewing the confirmation. |
| Material Usage | Inspect reported use of the material before changing or deleting it. |
Behavior and limits
Renaming a material does not make it a different material. Duplicating creates a separate definition; it does not automatically reassign the original’s faces.
Deleting a material is different from removing its paint from selected objects. Check model use and saved variant choices first. A missing configured variant material must be repaired.
