Your first material workflow
Find a cabinet’s materials, choose how to change its finish, and save the result.

Start with what is already there
Select an object you want to work on, then open Material Diagnostics. Compare Appearance with Assigned before changing its finish. A material can be visible on a face without being painted directly on it.
- Inspect the Hierarchy to identify direct and inherited materials.
- Use Materials to find where the same material is assigned elsewhere.
- Decide whether you want to change a container, its faces, or a saved design option.
Choose the right kind of change
Each workflow answers a different question. Start with your intent, then choose the tool.
- Assign: paint selected objects directly or work through their faces.
- Texture Transform: change position, angle or scale on eligible textured surfaces.
- Material Variants: register targets and save alternative material choices and supported texture positions.
- Material Diagnostics: understand assignments and review optional cleanup actions.
Review, save, and hand over
Inspect the result in your model, including repeated components. Save the SKP when you want to keep the changes and variant data. Use UMM cleanup when you want saved variant materials protected.
