Materializer

Clean, predictable materials in one click.

Scope
Full Model scans all geometry.
Selection limits the operation to selected groups or components.
Advanced
Uses tags to generate materials for ungrouped geometry.
Recommended for CAD imports.
Examples:
None → Base
Prefix → Tag_Base
Suffix → Base_Tag

Structural Materialization

Generate materials from model structure

⭐ Materializer — How It Works

Turns your model structure into clean, predictable materials.

    🔷 What Materializer does

Materializer creates one material per Group or Component and applies it directly to faces.

    • Only faces are painted
    • Repeated Components share one material
    • Groups with the same name share one material

This keeps materials consistent and easy to manage.

🔷 How Materializer decides what material to use

Materializer follows a simple priority order:

    1. Components
Faces inside a Component always use the Component's material.
    2. Groups
Groups paint their own direct faces.
    3. Tags (Advanced option)
Tags are used only for loose geometry when nothing else applies.

🔷 How to get the best results

    • Put geometry inside Groups or Components
    • Use Components for repeated objects
    • Use Groups for unique objects
    • Name things clearly
      Names become material names.

    🔷 Advanced Tab (Optional)

Advanced options are optional and reset each time.

    • Material Prefix: adds text before every generated material name (example: M_).
    • Materialize from Tags: use this for loose, tag-organized geometry (often CAD imports).
    • Tag Naming: optionally add Tag names as a prefix or suffix in material names.

For most SketchUp models, leave Advanced options off and use structure-based mapping.

    🔷 Summary

Materializer uses your model's structure first, applies materials only to faces, and produces clean, predictable results with one click.
